Subject of this report is the design of a traction winch for use in a
semi-submersible drilling rig. This traction has to relieve the storage winch
for the anchor cable. This is achieved by means of running the cable over a
pair of traction sheaves, thus decreasing the tension in the cable before
storage on the storage winch. The winch is designed for cables with a diameter
of 3"5 (89 mm).
