In this report a review has been made of the possible use of telescopic truck
cranes and mobile harbour cranes for cargo handling from barges. Also a study
has been made into hoisting equipment, specificaly spreaders, best suited for
these types of cranes. The main problems are the limited mobility, the
positioning of the cargo and the lack of horizontal load path. Furthermore
modifications to truck cranes and reach stackers are discussed so that they
can be applied to cargo handling from barges.
