This report describes the currently available industrial brake systems.
As a start the principle of braking is explained, after that the
descriptions of the brakes are made. For some systems the theoretical
background is stated, for other systems only a brief description is given.
After these descriptions a division by main task for industrial applications
is given. The report continues with a comparison of the different brakes and
a list of the advantages and disadvantages per type.
The main applications of three larger Dutch companies and some recent
developments in braking applications are stated.
At the end of the report some conclusions about the different brake systems
are given.
