In this report the developments in intermodal rail transport of the last ten
years are discussed. Also will be discussed whether the developments in Europe
will follow the developments in America. This report focusses on the policy of
the European Union towards stimulating intermodal transportation, the
developments in infrastructure like construction and standardization of
international rail networks. The rolling equipment is discussed and also some
new concepts are presented. Some types of transshipment terminals are presented
and finally some future full automatic operating transshipment terminals are
discussed.
