Literature survey, Report 2000.TT.5339, Transport Engineering and Logistics.

In this report energy storage is for different kinds of energy is discussed, especially kinetic energy storage. Energy storage is one of the solutions to use the fossil fuels effectively and to reduce the pollution of the environment. Kinetic energy is stored in flywheels. This kind of storage is used mainly in vehicles. To deliver the energy to the flywheel at all speeds a continuous variable transmission is needed. To get a better efficiency the transmission and the flywheel are integrated in an electromechanical system. The energy in vehicles and machines at a sea terminal can also be used more efficiently and energy storage has to be considered. A sea crane is discussed to see if a storage system is useful.
