Nowadays many city centers aren't accessible anymore for the RoRo trailer and
other heavy vehicles because of restrictions put up by local authorities. The
objective of these restrictions is to improve the environment. This causes an
increasing problem for the inner-city stores and supermarkets, because they
face distribution problems with their current distribution network. This is
why there is a need for a new logistical concept.
A new uniform load unit called the citybox is a plausible solution. The
objective of this study is to design a distribution vehicle for inner city-use.
The vehicle under study is a multitrailer system, which consists of a towing
vehicle, and three trailers that can deliver three cityboxes from a turnover
point near the city center to the inner-city stores and supermarkets.
